Basic Caring Communities
faith-based group support for ex-offenders

About Basic Caring Communities

Basic Caring Communities (BaCC) is a project of the Pact (the Prison Advice and Care Trust). We recruit volunteers who are motivated by their Christian faith to support someone coming out of prison who is determined to change, wants to build a more positive life for themselves, stay out of prison and not re-offend.

Coming out of prison can be a frightening and lonely experience. The wish to 'go straight' can be very strong, but often the support and help is simply not there. Many prisoners walk out of the prison gate with no-one to welcome them back into the world, no 'community'. No wonder then that 3 in 5 prisoners are re-convicted within two years of leaving prison.

BaCC volunteers offer regular support in the form of daily phone-calls and a one-to-one meeting if desired, and a weekly group meeting, for up to three months from release. We are looking for people who are willing to commit to providing support to one individual in a non-judgemental way; to work within clear boundaries; to be confidential and able to cope with disappointment. Full training and support are given.
