The Battersea Society
focusing on the past, present & future of Battersea

We aim to...

... improve the quality of life in Battersea and strengthen its identity and sense of community

... promote civic pride in Battersea

... stimulate interest in the geography, history, natural history, architecture, character and traditions of Battersea

... encourage good architecture, town planning and civic design, the planting and caring of trees, and the conservation and proper maintenance and use of open spaces

... promote excellence in new developments as well as conservation of the best features of the past

We want Battersea to be a vibrant, exciting and safe place to live, with job opportunities and good shopping and leisure amenities.

How can we achieve this?

We make representations to Government Departments and Wandsworth Council and there are regular meetings of Sub-Committees to focus on all aspects of Battersea, as well as make regular responses to planning applications in Battersea.

To find out what we have achived in the past and what is on our current agenda, take a look at our website.

We also organise lectures and talks on Battersea past and present, social events, walks and visits to places of interest, and occasional public meetings on health, transport or other topics of local concern.

Our quarterly newsletter Battersea Matters contains features on topics of current concern etc, and a regularly monthly email newsletter keeps members and friends up to date with forthcoming events in the local area and beyond.

You can also keep up to date by following us on Twitter @batterseasoc

We also hold a most enjoyable Annual Summer Party.

The only way we will really make a difference is by having a lively and active membership - so why not join us now?

Joining the Society

We are always delighted to greet new members to the Society.

As well as receiving a copy of our quarterly newsletter Battersea Matters and our monthly email news update, members have the chance to buy tickets for a wide range of private events and visits arranged by the Events committee.

Our annual spring lunch and summer party are two of the highlights of every year's programme. And of course we are always pleased to welcome those with particular interests or skills to one of our various sub-committees.
