About Us

Who are Putney wellbeing friends?

Putney wellbeing friends are a team of like-minded volunteers from all walks of life and ages who are skilled at listening to others. They offer a confidential compassionate ear to those seeking self-help.

Are they trained?

Our team of volunteers have all undertaken a course in internationlly accredited Mental Health First Aid. Many have had direct experience of common non-severe problems such as depression or anxiety.

What could they tell me?

They can signpost information via the wellbeing hub: www.wandsworthccg.nhs.uk/hub

This includes:

  • The 5 ways of wellbeing
  • Books on Prescription
  • Online and self-help therapies
What we signpost

The 5 ways of wellbeing

Connect, Be active, Keep earning, Give to others, Take notice

Books on Prescription - Putney library have a great selection of self-help books on a wide range of common problems such as anxiety, depression, sleeplessness etc. They have books by celebrities who outline their coping strategies for these issues; as well as a wide range of arts books with stories and poetry which can help lift your mood.

Online and self-help therapies - we can show you the way into 'The Big White Wall' which gives online psychological help 24/7 as well as self-referral courses such as Mindfulness, Managing Mood, Overcoming Worry, Stress Management.

Why not just go to my GP? - you may have already visited your GP. You may be waiting for therapy. GP's are very busy. There are other courses of action. And some people do not always want to go to their GP.

If I feel a bit depressed, what's that got to do with mental health? - we need to look after our mental health as much as our physical health. They are often related. there is no stigma in talking to ourselves or other people about this. Times are changing.

We work in collaboration with Putney GPs and Wandsworth Your Way and are funded by Public Health.

  • It's time to talk .........  no appointment necessary

When we operate
