Group 64
Theatre for Young People


Group 64 is a registered charity and was set up in 1964.


We are a Community Theatre Company for young people based in the heart of Putney. We are very lucky and proud to be a resident company at Putney Arts Theatre, this means all our classes take place on a real stage!


At Group 64 we believe that every child is important and can really benefit from drama activities, we aim to develop creativity and confidence in a safe and fun environment, whilst giving young people exciting theatrical experiences, great memories and an abudence of confidence and skills to take out into the world!


Group 64 is run by Youth Director - Nicola Sterry, who works full time to ensure every young person has a wonderful time at Group 64.

The charity is run by a team of Trustees, chaired by Perry Kitchen.  The Trustees with particular responsibility for G64 matters are Jane Peters and Vanessa Andrews



Group 64 offers exciting, innovative and highly regarded classes for all age groups.


Our classes focus on the creating an environment where young people feel confident to explore and develop their imagination and to be a bit silly! 

Little Monkeys   4-6 yrs

Monday 4.15-5.15pm     Tuesday 4.00-5.00pm

Drama classes for G64's youngest members are imagination led and all about having fun! 


Through the wonder of imagination and creativity G64's 4-6 drama classes encourages the development of confidence and self-esteem. 

We use a range of games, story-telling and music to explore stories to help children discover worlds beyond their own!

7-10 Year Olds

Saturday 9.00-10.30am                     Wednesday 4.30-6.00pm (9 - 11 year olds) 

Monday 5.30-7.00pm                        Thursday 4.00-5.30pm (6 - 9 year olds) 

The 7-10 classes are our largest age group and a very exciting place to be, our young G64 members are encouraged to develop their imaganiation and own ideas, through drama games and activites.


We use our fun and creative environment to bring out the best in each child, giving them opportunity to find a voice, create confidence and self esteem and make loads of new friends!


Our young G64ers also develop plenty of skills in our classes, such as singing, dancing, acting and voice. From 8 years old they have the opportunity to audition for Group 64's highly regarded productions on the main stage!


11-13 Year Olds


Saturday 10.30-12.00     Tuesday 5.00-6.30     Saturday 12.00-1.30 (13-15 Year Olds)


In a fun and friendly environment, we play games and improvise, whilst teaching the fundamentals of theatre and performance. We work on different performance skills, such as improvisation, ensemble work, script work and devising.


The 11-13 age group are also encouraged to audition for main stage shows, which are a wonderful opportunity to put these skills to good use. 


14-16 Year Olds

Tuesday 6.30-8.00     Thursday 5.30-7.00     Saturday 12.00-1.30 (13-15 Year Olds)

In a fun and friendly environment, we play games and improvise, whilst teaching the fundamentals of theatre and performance.

 We work on different performance skills, different types of theatre, scripts and playwrights these have included Commedia dell arte, Pinter, Blood Brothers, Method Acting, Comedy, New writing, directing and many more.


The 14+ age group are also encouraged audition for main stage shows are given the opportunity to stage manage or operate lighting and sound.


From the age of 14 Group 64 members are also given the opportunity to work on their own projects and performances in the studio. Our Young Directors programme runs every year, giving at least 2 budding directors the opportunity to choose, cast and direct a play, with the support of the Group 64 team.


The Young Company - 16-18 Year olds


The Young Company is a performance group for 16-18 year olds (you must be in year 12 and 13) we meet to rehearse every Monday 5-7pm.
