Postal Lending Library - Children's Books in Print & Braille

About us

ClearVision’s books all have braille (or Moon- a tactile reading system similar to braille), print and pictures, making them suitable for visually-impaired and sighted children and adults to share. There are over 14,000 books in the collection, including tactile board books, simple stories for young children and stimulating books for newly fluent readers. We even have a collection of books for older children and teenagers with a lower reading age. We have fiction and non-fiction in uncontracted (grade 1) and contracted (grade 2) braille - everything a young reader could want from The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Thomas the Tank Engine to Katie Morag, the Sheep-Pig, books about space and the Oxford Reading Tree. Our books are also suitable for visually impaired adults reading with sighted children.

Membership is free for families. Families are initially sent six books and can change three at a time as often as they like.

Schools, libraries, visual impairment services and other institutions pay £50.00 to borrow up to 20 books which can be changed up to 6 times a year. For educational establishments and visual impairment services, ClearVision has a loans collection of over a thousand hand-made tactile books, which are great for helping children build up their tactile discernment skills.

Joining the ClearVision Library

Anybody in the UK who needs children's books with a brailled text is welcome to join the ClearVision library. The books are sent direct to your address and there is no postage to pay.

Membership is free to families; organisations such as schools, libraries and VI services pay a heavily subsidised annual fee of £50. Long loan periods enable repeated reading of favourite books.

Our books are ordinary children's picture books with added braille (or Moon).

They do not have enlarged print and are therefore not especially suitable for partially-sighted children learning to read print.

With so many titles it is impractical to issue a booklist but if you give us as much information as you can about the child or children who will be using the books (age, reading age, interests, classroom topics, etc.) we will send appropriate books from those we have in stock.
