Hestia Age Activity Centre
Serving Older People Living in Wandsworth

About Us

Hestia Age Activity Centre provides services for local people aged 60+ in the London Borough of Wandsworth, aiming to help them stay active, independent and healthy, while living in their own homes for as long as possible.

Activities are run over two floors in the building. On the ground floor we have a large main hall where most activities are held and a conservatory and a smaller activity room/meeting area. On the first floor we have the IT suite, Art/Games room and a garden area.

Our Services

The centre provides more than 10 activities per week, including:

  • a bridge club
  • scrabble and bingo groups
  • art and computer classes
  • zumba and tai chi classes
  • a dominoes club, which competes in local tournaments
  • a gospel club run by service users
  • a Friday afternoon service user led movie matinée

Hestia provides healthy, value for money lunches four days a week, and there is also a minibus which can be used to help less mobile service users within SW12, SW16, SW17 and SW18 to visit the centre.

We also organise day trips and short holidays, ensuring that the service users stay active and remain a part of the community. The centre has also started to run a take-away service, so that the service users can take home healthy food to eat on Thursday, when the centre is closed, and over the weekend.

We provide a home visiting service and telephone support on Thursdays when the Centre is closed. On Tuesdays we facilitate a service user led drop-in session at St. Barnabus Church Hall in Southfields from 10.00am - 1.00pm. The current focus of this group is recording peoples lives in Wandsworth for publication. On Fridays we provide a keep fit/support group at Southfields Library from 2.00pm - 4.00pm.

We are working towards building an accessible IT suite on the ground floor for disabled users.

One of Hestia’s key policies is to ensure service user involvement at every level of the charity, meaning that the service we provide is customised to their individual needs. This is put into practice in the Age Activity Centre by the Service Users Champion Group. They meet with the management every month to discuss the needs of the service users, and tailor the services accordingly.
