Battersea Befriending Network
Building Hope and Confidence Together

About Us

Battersea Befriending Network is a small voluntary sector organisation which aims to reduce the social isolation that often accompanies the experience of mental ill health.

It does this by creating and supporting one-to-one friendships between trained volunteers and adults living in the community.

While based in the Battersea area, it now operates throughout Wandsworth.

Our Services

At present we support 20 befrienders in ongoing befriending relationships with individuals who, through their mental health care teams or GPs, have asked for a befriender with whom they can engage in social activities.

These activities may range from simple outings to shops, a local park or café to a sporting activity like cycling or swimming.  In addition, twice a year we run a social event such as a party or picnic to which all befrienders and their friends are invited.

Although limited at present, the number of befrienders is gradually increasing, as each year we hold a free training course for volunteers (run by mental health professionals) in which service users are also welcome to participate.
